APEL SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Register:

Schools must complete both the School Registration Form and the Student Registration Form. Be certain that you have reviewed the Summer Reading Program requirements as described in the Program Description. At least 10 students must participate.

PRACTICE READING:

During the month of June your students can log into the APEL library and read classic novels using TextAloud software free of charge.

15 minutes per day, 4 times per day over 20 days

These Glencoe Study Guides are provided for your use during this program. Visit Glencoe Literature Library for more study guides

• A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
• The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
• The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
• The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin
• Call of the Wild by Jack London 
• Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
• Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
• The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
• Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
• The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane
• The Scarlett Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
• The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Other Study Guides are available on the web.

• Teacher or parent monitors students and gives them feedback on their daily reading activity and habits.
• Students read 1 hour per day, in at least 15 minute sessions. Sustained reading is key to reading improvement.
• Schools must maintain 10 participating students.
